Fiber is a a thread or filament from which a vegetable tissue, mineral substance, or textile is formed. That’s a broad category and the Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach, has invited artists to showcase works representing the world of fibers. The exhibit includes felted flax, quilts, bqskets, baric collage, weaving and more.
The show was judged by judged by Keidra Daniels Navaroli, assistant director and curator of the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne. First Place was awarded to Ellen Lindner for her shaped, quilted fabric collage “Caring”. Additional awards went to Ann Welly Revels, felted flax, and Susan Dyer, quilt. Other participating artists are Gabriele DiTota, Marilyn Seibring, Nancy Binding, Marlyn Foell, KC Grapes, Kestrel Michaud, Doris Hulse, and Linda Geiger.
The exhibit will be on display through November 17. at the Studios of Cocoa Beach. This non-profit, co-op gallery presents the work of 30 local artists and offers workshops and classes for adults and children in a variety of techniques. The Studio is open Monday 10:30am-3:30 pm, Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 am-8pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.
